The story picks up during [[Joey Getchie]]'s senior year at [[Katz Learning Annex]]. After witnessing the murder of a homeless teen in Portland's [[Pioneer Courthouse Square]], Joey discovers the boy may have been friends with Joey's sister Laura. There's just one problem: Laura died in a house fire eleven years before, when the murdered boy would have been still is diapers.
[[Joey Getchie]] discovers evidence his sister Mary, whom he thought had died in a house fire that also killed his father, may in fact have survived. This discovery sets him on a journey to discover what really happened that day—even if it means confronting his own culpability in what increasingly begins to look like a murder.

Joey Getchie discovers evidence his sister Mary, whom he thought had died in a house fire that also killed his father, may in fact have survived.
